Blaine FC Strong Win Over Super IBIBA

By Charles Speckman 06/06/2014, 8:30pm CDT

Super Ibiba started the game with 9 guys, while Blaine FC was able to field a full 11 plus 5 subs.  Although up 2 guys, Super Ibiba did an outstanding job taking everything away down the middle of the field, leaving only the outsides open.  Blaine was able to sneak a single goal in the first half with a nice finish by the forward.  About 15-20 minutes into the first half Ibiba ended up filling all 11 spots on the field and I believe had a sub or two on the side line.

Half time came and Blaine was up 1-0, but was confident that finding feet, and stop looking for the "BIG PLAY" was going to be the solution to coming out with a victory. Ibiba ended up losing 1-2 guys at half.

2nd Half started up, and Blaine was able to start putting on the pressure right away.  The forwards started to find the groove and goals started to fall.  Finding the right mix of guys was the game, as well as finding the open space created by Ibiba playing short handed. Goals 2-6 all found the back of the net by teamwork and players working hard out on the pitch.  Not one of these goals came with ease however, as the Ibiba keeper made several outstanding saves, and kept the ball out of the back of the net on several occasions.

Game was called several minutes short as the 9-10 guys Ibiba had were ready to call it a night.

Overall this was a great game.  I welcome Super Ibiba to the league, as they are a great group of guys.  I wish them the best of luck this season, and am confident that with a full team, they would have put up a much stronger fight.

Blaine FC tops Burnsville Fire

By Charles Speckman 05/30/2014, 2:00pm CDT

First Win over Burnsville

Game got off to a late start due to the MASL site not informing the refs and Burnsville which of the 57 Fields we were playing on.  Little patience and everyone made it there ok, and the game kicked off 10-15 minutes late.

With the stage set, and history showing that Blaine has never pulled 3 points away from Burnsville, we knew this was going to be a fun game.  These teams have tied several time in the years past, but Burnsville has always found a way to get the 3 Points when it was deserved in years past.

Blaine started off well and was able to get 2 goals early in the first half.  One off a hand ball penalty by the keeper who was dancing on the top of the 18 trying to push the ball away.  The AR waved his flag, and we all knew, that in the opinion of the referee, that the hand and ball made contact outside the penalty area. With a good shot, this ball was placed kindly in the back of the net.  The second goal came shortly after when Blaine attacker drove to the goal deep in the zone, and playing the simple ball on the ground past the keeper.  2-0 with Blaine doing a good job controlling play.

Burnsville gained a couple guys in this period and gave themselves a couple subs.  At this point, the game balanced out well, and started to become a mental game.  There seemed to be a fair amount of talking on the field between the teams, but all seemed in good spirits of the game. Blaine missed several golden oppurtunities in the first half to put this game away early.  Dinged one off he cross bar, and sent a couple sailing over to top of the goal, when a simple shot could have put it in the back of the net.  Burnsville did a good job keeping the ball in the Blaines end of the field, and Blaine could not clear the zone.

Half time came and went, Blaine feeling comfortable, however knew the next goal was going to be the important goal of the game.  Burnsville came out of the gate in the 2nd half hungrey for a goal.  Holding posession in Blaines end of the field for a while, Blaine got things squared away and the game became balanced again.  With Burnsville putting the preasure on, they ball was played into the middle of the filed about 6 yard out from the goal, and found the foot of a happy Burnsville player, beating the goalie.  That was the goal Blaine did not want to concede.  The half continued and Blaine made a few changes to the formation of play again, a few short minutes affter this change in formation things started to open up top, and Blaine missed 2 breakaways just wide of the net.  Shortly there after, there was a scrumage in front of the net, and guy that missed 2 breakaways decides to show the team he wasnt going to go 0-3 on shots in the 2nd half.  He rips a ball along the ground past the keeper.  Burnsville starts yelling for off-sides, as Blaine had a guy on his knee in an off-side position.  The referee's discussed the play before rewarding the goal, and they both agreed that sitting on a knee wide of the goal, not blocking the view for the keeper, deems this player as not involved in play, and rewards the goal. Blaine goes up 3-1.

The finial whistle blows, and Blaine is rewarded the 3 points for the victory.   Well played match by both teams, and sportsmanship after the game proves that although there was alot of talk between the two teams during the match, respect is had for the game by everyone.  This will be a fun rematch in Burnsville!

Blaine FC defeats V-Hawks on the Turf

By Charles Speckman 05/23/2014, 9:00am CDT

Blaine FC finding the groove

Blaine FC and the V-Hawks have a long history among our two teams.  A high 70 degree night, sun out, and a perfect turf pitch to play on was the stage for this great match.  Blaine FC coming in with several new player, while V-Hawks brought their typical lineup, with a new Goalkeeper, and maybe a couple new field players.  With the Center referee a few minutes late to the game, we had the pleasure to get a few extra touches on this fast pace turf.  The center blew the whistle to let the fun begin.  V-Hawks were consistently putting on some pressure, and Blaine FC was trying to find it's groove.   Frustration starting to build on the Blaine team as several new players are trying to find their spots and get into a groove with the rest of the team.  Yokom scoops up a ball that came rolling in to him in goal, looked for a quick play to one of our forwards and saw an opportunity to let s bomb go.  Too deep for the forward, the V-Hawks defender plays the ball back to their keeper, swing and a miss, and the ball rolls past him into the net, 1-0 Blaine. Both teams took a couple subs, and even play was the story of the match.  Several corner kicks were taken by both teams, where they never made it past the first round of defenders.   Blaine was the first team to put a corner kick past the first defender, and it resulted in a goal.  This is after 2 bounces on the top of the cross bar, and falling directly to a waiting Dan to head the ball into the net (2-0 Blaine).

Halftime came shortly after the 2nd goal, and this was needed for Blaine to find some organization, and clean up a few items.  Starting the 2nd half the same way we started the match, with one substitution exception, Blaine was off to another slow start of the half.  V-Hawks were putting on the pressure looking to cut the lead.  Yokom was able to find the ball after a few great shots by the V-Hawks.  Yokom was call upon a few times to keep his shutout going early in the 2nd half.  Thus, calling for a shift of personal again from Blaine.  Subbing in a few "New" guys about 12 minutes into the 2nd half, and the game switched to a more midfield battle again.  About 20 minutes into the 2nd half, Trent played a ball into space behind the V-Hawks tiring defense, and Tony was able to get a couple touches on the ball before putting it into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.  Blaine FC missed a few more golden opportunities before the end of the match, leaving the score at 3-0 at the final whistle.

This was another fun game between V-Hawks and Blaine FC.  Two teams with a lot of respect for each other, and already looking forward to the next time we meet in Blaine.
